BALLYCASTLE mother Caroline McAfee is inviting you all to join her at a 'pre-loved Christmas' event being held later this month in the Courtyard Coffee Shop.
The school teacher explained her thoughts behind the unique idea, and said she hoped as many people as possible would come along and benefit from the items no longer used by others'.
Speaking to the Chronicle, Caroline said: “When I had my little one, people were so generous. She got so many clothes bought to her, some of them were only ever on her a time or two before she grew out of them.
“So I was looking at her clothes and a lot of her toys and thought, 'it would be great if someone else could benefit from these' – I'd like to share the love.”
Caroline is quick to explain that she doesn't see it, and doesn't want anyone else to see it as charity.
She said: “It's not about charity, it's about community. I have been given items of clothing by friends that my daughter wears to her childminder, or outside playing, items that have been pre-loved and worn and I really appreciate it and we all benefit from it.
“Children grow so fast and they grow out of playing with certain toys so quick that they can sometimes be like new even after lots of playing, it would be really good to find the items a new home.
“I normally send clothes and toys to charity shops, but this time I thought we'd try and do something closer to home, as I know I'm not the only one with lots of clothes that still has plenty of wear in them!”
So if anyone has anything that they don't need, clean clothes, toys or books in good condition or baby essentials, then you can contact Caroline.
Caroline added: “Not only are we helping each other out, it means we all get new items for our little ones and are out no extra expense, especially at this time of the year. It's not only saving money but it's also about sustainability and is more beneficial for the environment.”
So on Saturday November 29 from 2.30pm until 4pm you can pop in to the Courtyard Coffee Shop, reduce, reuse and share a little joy, by sharing what your little ones have outgrown or have no use of - all for free.
Caroline concluded: “Everyone is welcome and the event is for everyone! Together we can make room for the new, while giving the old a beautiful new home!”
